JUNIOR LEAGUE OF SOUTH BREVARD
Since the early 1990’s SMS has supported the Festival of Trees and their annual rummage sale with in kind moving service. The company delivers setup items required for the gala and show, moves the items back into storage at the conclusion of the event, and delivers the Christmas trees to their purchasers. For Rummage Roundup, SMS picks up all of the rummage items out of storage and delivers them to the event site. -
REACHING OUT PROGRAM
In conjunction with Florida Today, Sorensen collects, stores, sorts and distributes toys to the needy children throughout the Brevard community and has done so since the programs inception in the early 1990’s. Prior to this program, SMS supported the Marine Toys for Tots Christmas drive with drop off boxes and in kind moving services. -
SPACE COAST INTERVENTION CENTER
For many years, SMS has provided in kind moving service, equipment and financial support to the SCEIC. Their delivery services have been important in supporting Scenic’s annual fundraiser. -
SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK
For seven years, the company has provided in kind moving services to help provide over 117,000 meals to needy families throughout Brevard County. -
HURRICANE KATRINA RELIEF PROJECT
Working in partnership with the American Red Cross, Sorensen Moving and Storage spearheaded the project to collect and deliver over 75,000 pounds of needed goods for Katrina victims in the Gulf Coast. This entailed collecting and loading donated items throughout Brevard County, sorting those items, and then working a successful delivery to the victims in the Gulf Coast regions. -
HURRICANE ANDREW
In 1992 when Hurricane Andrew hit and devastated Southern Florida, SMS was on site to help with packing and moving needs for those victims hit by the hurricane. -

Sorensen continually provides in kind moving services for special events and contributes financially on an annual basis. -
MELBOURNE CENTRAL CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL
For many years, SMS has supported MCC’s sports programs and fundraising efforts by providing both in kind moving services and financial support. For the dinner auction, Sorensen delivers all of the silent and live auction items from the school to the dinner locale. In addition, for many years SMS has sponsored the Thanksgiving tip-off tournament which showcases local basket ball teams and, after the football field was devastated by a hurricane, helped to fund a new football scoreboard and needed equipment. -

Biography
Scott Sorensen has been the owner of Sorensen Moving & Storage, an agent for Allied Van Lines, since 1977. The company was founded in 1956 by his father Bill Sorensen. Under Scott Sorensen’s leadership, the company has expanded to employ a staff of 215 with 36 long haul drivers. In 1993, he opened an Orlando company and in 2004, expanded into Tampa, successfully operating both companies until their sale in 2006. In 2009, Mr. Sorensen opened Sorensen Office Solutions, a full service office furniture company and a full service dealer for Herman Miller. The Melbourne-Palm Bay Area Chamber of Commerce named Sorensen Moving & Storage its Small Business of the Year in 1989 and in 1990, the company was recognized as the Small Business of the Year for Florida. Allied Van Lines has consistently recognized Sorensen Moving & Storage as one of its top performers in sales, hauling and quality and in 2000, awarded the company the Agent of the Year Award. Mr. Sorensen founded the Eastern CEO Forum, a support network for Allied agents and he served on the Board of Directors of the Allied Agents Association from 1993 to 2002.
Mr. Sorensen was born in Albany, N.Y. and moved to Melbourne when he was six months old. He attended Eau Gallie High School and the University of Florida, where he majored in business.
In the community, Mr. Sorensen has been active for 30 years. He served for many years on boards and has been an active member of the Melbourne Regional Chamber of East Central Florida and the Space Coast Economic Development Commission. He has also been active in his support of many local charitable organizations such as Space Coast Early Intervention, Florida Today’s Reaching Out program, Harvest Food Bank and the Junior League of South Brevard. In 2008, Mr. Sorensen was inducted into the Business Hall of Fame of the Junior Achievement of East Central Florida and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of East Central Florida, Prevent! Of Brevard and United Way. One of his most meaningful volunteer efforts was the Hurricane Katrina relief drive spearheaded by the entire Sorensen Moving and Storage team.
